Get ready for the iPhone 5

Although the public does seem to have something of a fascination of cell phones in general, none of these phones seems to capture the excitement of the consumers more than the iPhone. There is always just a little bit of excitement in the air when a new Apple product is about to be released, and of course it is the iPhone that is the most popular of these products. This then, makes the iPhone 5 the next big product to come from Apple since the iPhone 4S, and it is one that is already starting to bring up some excitement for those that are die-hard Apple fans or just iPhone owners.

Although almost nothing is known about the iPhone 5 and what it is going to have when it hits the shelves, there is still plenty of rumors and speculation regarding this. Possibly the most speculated piece of information regarding the iPhone 5 would have to be the release date, or when we can expect it to go on sale. Unfortunately it is unlikely that even Apple knows when this is going to be so early on in its development. Despite this, the likelihood of a late 2012 release date for the iPhone 5 is looking pretty good, as they tend to stick to a yearlong waiting period in between release dates of each iPhone that they make.
The next iPad is set to come out sooner than the iPhone 5, and that is more than likely going to hit shelves with the Apple A6 processor.
This will be the first glimpse into what we will see in terms of hardware for the iPhone 5, as it is more than likely going to be the processor that is used for the iPhone 5. In the end, we will only know what is going to be on the iPhone 5 when Apple formally announces it to us.

HTC Sensation XE review

The XE is the second Beats Audio-branded smartphone we've seen, after the HTC Sensation XL. The HTC Sensation XE is a far more powerful beast, though, with a dual-core 1.5GHz processor rather than the XL's single-core chip. It's also a Beats-branded handset, and so has a stylish black and red colour scheme and comes with a pair of Beats-branded in-ear headphones.

The headphones are the Monster iBeats model, which would be £64 from www.currys.co.uk if you bought them separately. They have a built-in microphone and inline remote control, and while they no doubt sound better than the headphones you normally get with a phone, they're not brilliant. When the Beats headphones are plugged in, by default HTC's music player gives you the option of having Beats Audio switched on or off. With Beats turned on, music has bass and treble turned up to the max, and while this works reasonably well with most tracks, it drowns out the midrange and can be tiring to listen to. We preferred the warmer sound we got when we turned Beats off.
When we plugged in a different set of headphones we had the choice of enabling Beats Audio or using HTC enhancer. Beats Audio gave us a very bright sound as before, but HTC enhancer just had loads of bass, which rather overwhelmed the rest of the sound. We got the best sound from both sets of headphones just by using the Android version of Winamp, which made our music sound less processed overall.

As a phone rather than a music player, the Sensation XE is great. The fast dual-core processor helps it speed along, and battery life is a reasonable seven hours and 20 minutes, which compares well with other Android smartphones but isn't a patch on the iPhone 4S's 12-hour life.
The screen is also impressive. Its high 540x960 (qHD) resolution makes text and images sharp, and there's plenty of contrast. The screen is also so bright that we found the middle brightness setting more than adequate for general use.

Samsung Set to Cease Netbook Production in 2012

Samsung Electronics, one of the world's largest consumer electronics and semiconductor conglomerate, plans to discontinue its netbook computers in favour of ultra-portable notebooks, tablets as well as ultrabooks.
Samsung, presumably earlier this week, sent an email to one of its partners notifying that already in the first quarter of next year it would discontinue its 10.1" netbook range and instead will offer more powerful 11.6" and 12" ultraportable laptops as well as ultrabooks later in 2012. While the move does not directly claim that Samsung shuts down its ultra low-cost personal computer (ULCPC) business, it is clear that the devices with 10.1" screens should be tablets.

"Following the introduction of our new strategy in 2012, we stop the production of the 10.1" range (netbooks) in Q1 2012 in favour of ultraportable products (11.6" and 12") and ultrabooks to be launched in 2012," the alleged Samsung e-mail, which was published by Blogeee web-site, reads.
While netbooks - personal computers in clamshell form-factor with 7" - 10" screens and very low-cost microprocessor - have been positioned to be a line of inexpensive ultra-portable PCs, in reality those systems were never used as traditional PCs. Netbooks turned out to be too slow for more or less demanding productivity applications and thus were turned down by professionals or multimedia-interested end-users. Therefore, people used those devices for basic Internet browsing, communications and other very simple tasks. When media tablets, such as Apple iPad, started to show up on the market offering similar functionality amid better interface and portability, netbooks' popularity quickly decreased.
At present Samsung can offer basic computing functionality with its Galaxy Tab slates, which use components produced by the company itself and thus brings a lot more profits to the conglomerate than Intel Atom-powered netbooks. Not surprising that Samsung wants to discontinue netbooks and concentrate on tablets and ultra-portable notebooks.
With the improvements of tablets as well as expanding families of ultra-portable notebooks, there market of netbooks will inevitably shrink. They will continue to exist on some markets and at some price-points, but essentially the era of mass netbooks as we know them is over.
Samsung did not comment on the news-story.

features Product Feature ScoreProduct Feature ScoreProduct Feature ScoreProduct Feature Score
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 offers a feature set that is rivaled by few tablet devices. The first thing that you'll notice is the brilliant display screen. Whether watching videos, surfing the web or using productivity applications, the screen provides a user experience that is remarkably like using a full-sized computer. We were impressed with the speed at which web-based video content loaded and the flawless playback. Switching videos to full-screen mode is a delight. While we expected to see notable pixilation in full-screen, the reality was that the images remained sharp with beautiful color saturation. Videos played every bit as smoothly as we're accustomed to seeing on a desktop.

The 3.0-megapixel rear camera takes good if not spectacular pictures, and while the form-factor of a tablet isn't ideal for photography, it's certainly functional. The camera application includes auto-focus, an LED flash and a few basic adjustments. Switching to video recording mode is simply a matter of moving an on-screen slide control. There's even a video editing app included, and you can embed still photos into your video project.

The 2.0-megapixel forward-facing camera is ideal for video chatting. Our test device offers internet access via Wi-Fi only and it certainly isn't a cell phone, but we particularly like being able to make Skype video phone calls. A cellular version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is slated to be released in the near future and will operate using Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1's design is dominated by its 1200 x 800 pixel touchscreen. It's surrounded by a black bezel, but otherwise the buttonless face of the device is all screen. An on/off switch, volume rocker and 3.5 mm headphone jack are located on the top edge. The sides sport stereo speakers that won't send chills up your audiophile spine but are much better than might be expected as built-ins. On the bottom there is a proprietary charging and docking port. The back cover is available in white or metallic gray.

At the heart of the device, Samsung has provided a peppy nVidia Tegra2 Dual Core 1GHz processor. It provides plenty of power to run the device smoothly over a wide variety of applications. Our test unit had 16GB of internal memory though a 32GB version is also available.

Typing on any touchscreen has positives and negatives. Its flat surface certainly doesn't offer the feel and certainty of a physical keyboard, but the virtual QWERTY keyboard – available in landscape and portrait mode – offers some haptic feedback, which helps to a degree. In portrait mode, thumb typing seems to work best, but the larger keyboard of the landscape mode allows for normal typing if you pay close attention to avoid errors.

The browser application is exceptional for such a portable device. It offers the complete internet experience like on a computer with full-content webpages. It even has tabbed browsing just like on a computer, a particularly handy feature. Pages are rendered as quickly as you'd expect with any brand new computer.

The Galaxy features a 7000 mAh Li-Polymer battery that offers about 10 hours of usage on a charge. Actual battery life will, of course, depend on how you use the tablet. Wireless connectivity is by Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, and the device also supports Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR Connectivity.

Touchscreen devices are all about the display, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a real winner. Whether you'll personally find it to be a little better or a bit worse than the iPad is a matter of personal preference. We'll say that we found it to be surprisingly bright and crisp and liked it very much. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 will run Adobe Flash, a feature notably missing from the iPad. Since so many webpages use Flash, this can be important. In our evaluation, we found that most content ran with ease, but while some graphics-intensive pages indeed played, they tended to be choppy. Once we closed some applications that were running in the background, Flash play was smoother but still not as fluid as it should be.

Tablets are intended to make their users' lives easier so there's little toleration for one that is at all difficult to operate. For consumers who already use an Android device, there's virtually no learning curve in getting up to speed with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Even those who have never used and Android device will have little trouble adapting to this sleek interface. Icons, widgets and drag-and-drop functionality make using the tablet simple and pleasurable. Its multitasking ability is a major plus, and the web browser experience is essentially identical to using a computer.

The screen is very responsive to the touch of a finger. Panning from one screen to another is smooth and instantaneous. Multi-touch technology is available in many applications for zooming, and tapping hyperlinks will deliver you quickly to the next subject. Downloading apps from the Android Market is a simple process and installing them is even easier. Icons and shortcuts can be customized by dropping them where they are most convenient for your personal needs.
Summary
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the best Android tablet we've tested so far. Its design is not coincidentally similar to that of the Apple iPad 2, which continues to set the standard but is now being challenged. If you're a fan of the many advantages of Android smartphones, this is definitely the tablet for you.

Windows 8 Features & Release Date

Windows, being one of the most used OS, brings great challenges for Microsoft to keep its users impressed in the next version of Windows.
Although Windows 7 has done exceptionally well since its release, Microsoft has been constantly working to make the next version of Windows a better one by further improving upon the existing features, and have added new impressive Windows 8 features along with a stunning UI.
Microsoft released the early version of Windows 8 on a prototype tablet last week. Those of you who would like to taste and experience the all new windows 8, you can download the Developer Preview, which is currently in pre-beta version. The developer version shows off the current stage of the OS. It is available for free download and comes in three different packages:
  • (1) 64-bit version – Only the OS
  • (2) 32-bit version – Only the OS
  • (3) 64-bit version with developer tools

Windows 8 offers a number of new Windows 8 features from its all new UI to Windows App Store and improvised security features. Here’s a list of new features and improvements which will arrive with Windows 8:

Support for both x86 PCs and ARM tablets

Windows 8 is the first edition of Windows which will work on both ARM based tablets and traditional x86 (as well as x32 and x64) PCs based on ARM processors from Intel and AMD.
“Support for ARM-based chipsets, touch, and sensors makes Windows 8 work beautifully on your choice of a full spectrum of devices, such as 10-inch slates with all-day battery life, ultra-lightweight laptops, and powerful all-in-ones with 27-inch high-definition screens,” Microsoft contends, in a Windows 8 Guide distributed with Windows Developer Preview

    Windows To Go

The “Windows To Go” seems to be an exciting feature that basically allows Windows 8 to boot from a USB device (called as Live USB), including user’s programs, settings and files. The feature is designed to work with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, and on both legacy NIOS and UDFI firmware. However, Microsoft says that a user will not be able to “Hibernate” with this feature.
Windows 8“Windows To Go is a new feature in Windows 8 that enables enterprise administrators to create USB drives containing complete, managed Windows images that users can use to boot and run Windows on any Windows 7 or Windows 8 capable computer. Windows To Go makes it possible for employees to use a managed device whether they work from home, a client office or in a free seating environment. This session will discuss Windows To Go, its hardware requirements and building compatible and complementary software.”
Another interesting thing about this feature is that, if the USB drive is removed, Windows will automatically freeze, but will continue to operate if the USB drive is inserted back in the next 60 seconds after removal.

    Windows Store

To compete with Apple, Windows has confirmed the introduction of a Windows Store, similar to Mac App Store, which allows users to browse through Windows applications, while developers can publish their Metro-style apps on Windows 8 devices.
Few days back, Microsoft gave a strategic view of its app store, and gave a quick demo on how it works. Microsoft revealed that the Windows App Store will be the only place where users can access the Metro-styled apps. Here’s a quick demo that shows how users will be able to buy their apps:

Windows 8 Start Screen – The Start screen is yet another impressive UI. The screen basically groups all your applications together, which you can easily drag and drop, or add new things.

    Windows 8 Task Manager

    Windows 8 Minimum System Requirements

It is reported that Windows 8 is expected to have the same system requirements as Windows 7, and will run on existing machines that run Windows 7. Here are the following minimum system requirements to run Windows 8:
Processor: 1GHz or faster 32-bit or 64-bit processor
    RAM: 1GB (32-bit) or 2GB (64-bit)
    HD Space: 16GB for 32-bit (or 20GB for 64-bit)

Windows 8 Bringing Kinect to Laptops?

Microsoft is also planning to build Kinect sensors into laptops. Prototypes have already been released, and were confirmed to be official. The sensors would be placed where the webcam is currently placed, and there could be an IR LED at the bottom of the screen. If Microsoft techs manage to drive the price of sensors down, it might even become a standard feature. There are also talks of miniaturized Kinect hardware for notebooks.

    Windows 8 Release Date

We can expect Windows 8 to be launched sometime in mid-late 2012, however, it’s too early to predict the Windows 8 release date, since it is still under development. Nevertheless, the only question that haunts each and every one of us – Will  Microsoft win the battle against Apple which it had lost several years back?

i phone 4s

The iPhone 4S is a touchscreen slate smartphone developed by Apple Inc. It is the fifth generation of the iPhone, a device that combines the 3.5-inch (89 mm) iPod Touch with mobile phone capability. It retains the exterior design of its predecessor, the iPhone 4, but is host to a range of improved hardware specifications and software updates. Integrated software and hardware changes support the introduction of new user interface and functions by Apple, including the voice recognizing and talking assistant called Siri, personal computer independence, cloud-sourced data (iCloud) and an improved camera system. A selection of the device's functions may be voice-controlled. The iPhone 4S was unveiled at Apple's "Let's Talk iPhone" event on October 4, 2011 in Cupertino, California. Apple started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4S on October 7, 2011 in seven initial countries (United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan) with the first delivery date set for October 14, 2011, and available on that same day for direct store sales in those countries. It was released in 22 more European, American and Asian countries, including Ireland, Mexico and Singapore on October 28. It is available on 100 carriers in 70 countries overall, including AT&T, Verizon, and for the first time, also for Sprint and C Spire customers in the United States. In Japan, it is available for au (a KDDI brand) and Okinawa Cellular, for the first time. For US customers, while pre-orders for purchasers buying contracts started on October 7, 2011, unlocked (contract-free) sales started on November 11, 2011. The Associated Press said that AT&T described early iPhone 4S demand as "extraordinary".

i phone 5

Let’s start with the obvious: based on these pictures, it appears that the iPhone 5 will, in fact, come with 4G. This has been rumored for many months and was even previously reported on iPhone 5 Latest. What’s not obvious, however, is whether this will be plain 4G or 4G LTE–and, yes, there is a difference between the two. The difference between the two is simple: 4G LTE is considerably faster than 4G (we’re talking 12mbps download rate versus 5-6mbps download rate).
Perhaps even more noticeable than the beautiful 4G icon in the iPhone 5′s taskbar is the size of the device. In looking at the first picture, the bigger size isn’t that noticeable; however, when you see picture 2, it’s obvious that the iPhone 5 is bigger than the previous iPhone models. How much bigger? We don’t know yet, but judging by the pictures, we’re betting that the iPhone 5 is probably sporting at least a 3.7 to 4.3″ display. Beyond these two big differences, we can also see that the receiver on the iPhone 5 is slightly bigger than it was on other iPhones. This is likely due to the bigger overall size of the device. It also appears that the front-facing camera is slightly bigger. Could this mean a better front-camera for the iPhone 5? We don’t know yet, but it is possible.

Samsung 4G LTE smartphone

The white curtains just lifted here at the Samsung booth at CES to unveil the Samsung 4G LTE Smartphone. This Verizon LTE-ready beast touts a Super AMOLED Plus display, runs Android 2.2 with TouchWiz and features a front-facing cam. On the rear it's got an 8 megapixel auto-focus shooter and mini HDMI on the hip. We're busy sorting out details and grabbing more pics. Stay tuned! The operator confirms the following cities will have 4G LTE network coverage by the end of the year: Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Furthermore, some of the cities included are in the areas of Rockford and Peoria, Ill.; Columbia and Jefferson City, Mo.; Manchester, N.H.; Wilmington and Jacksonville, N.C.; Tulsa, Okla.; Medford, Ore.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Roanoke and Lynchburg, Va.; Yakima and the Tri-Cities, Wash.; Morgantown, W. samsung star 3 (new)

Samsung has just announced the newest edition of its feature phone superstar - the Samsung Star 3 and Samsung Star 3 Duos promise to make feature phones smarter with better social networking, Samsung’s ChatON and an extremely affordable price tag.
The Samsung Star 3 comes with a 3-inch capacitive QVGA LCD display, a 3.2-megapixel camera which can record QCIF videos, the TouchWiz Lite user interface and 20MB of internal memory extendible via a microSD card slot accepting cards of up to 16GB. In terms of connectivity, you get EDGE speeds, Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0. The battery is 1,000mAh. So overall, in terms of hardware features, the Star 3 looks almost identical to the second-gen Samsung Star. When speaking about the features, the most notable addition is ChatON - Samsung’s free messaging platform, which a welcome addition on a feature phone. You also have stereo FM radio with RDS and a music player with SoundAlive. Designwise, the Samsung Star 3 is not a revolutionary change - the screen sizes are the same, the looks and weight nearly identical, but the devices has become slightly wider and thinner. Save for the support for two SIM cards, the Samsung Star 3 Duo is virtually identical to its single SIM sibling. The two devices are ready for an almost immediate release in late January in Russia, and they are also gearing up to arrive in CIS, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Southeast Asia. The Star 3 Duos will also make an appearance in Southwest Asia.
